Hollywood’s Favorite Beard Styles

Anchor beard

Robert Downey Jr. has been embracing the anchor beard since joining the cast of Iron Man in 2008. Sometimes known as the Van Dyke (named after Flemish artist Anthony van Dyck), this style has been worn by some very famous men, but it’s actually surprisingly easy to achieve. If you want to try it, start by growing out your mustache (in any style you like), then grow some stubble on your chin and neck. The key to a great anchor beard is to always keep your cheeks shaved. Also, your upper lip hair should never blend in with the rest of your beard.

Chin beard

LeBron James isn’t just a king on the court, his beard is also worth praising. While he’s tried out a variety of different styles throughout his two-decade NBA career, the chin beard he debuted in 2018 is arguably the most popular. To achieve this sharp look, you’ll need a solid razor, plenty of time, and plenty of beard oil. While some chin beards are quite short, they’re often kept longer to really accentuate your jawline (or create the illusion that you don’t have a chin at all). Some can blend in with your hair, but it’s totally up to you.

Full beard

A full beard is one of the most masculine facial hair styles a man can have, and if you have the ability to grow a silky, long beard like Jason Momoa, why not give it a try? This masculine, “I don’t care” look is perfect for men who live their lives more relaxed, as it doesn’t require daily maintenance. Put away your razors and trimmers, because you won’t need them. Instead, grab a good pair of scissors and trim any stray hairs you see. You can also apply plenty of beard wax to keep your beard healthy and beautiful.

Goatee

Goatees are very similar to stubble, but the focus is on the length of the hair on the chin. So mustaches are completely optional. It’s definitely a more controversial style, but some of Hollywood’s most popular names (Brad Pitt, Chris Pine, etc. etc.) have sported goatees on several occasions. Getting a goatee is relatively easy. It’s basically just a matter of growing the beard below your lower lip. A common problem for those with goatees is that it looks patchy, so get a quality beard balm and add it to your daily skincare routine.

The Emperor’s Beard

Pierce Brosnan has been one of the big names in menswear for the last fifty years. It’s safe to say he’s the man we wanted to be when we grew up. But while his iconic suits and collectible watches are always in the spotlight, his silver hair and magnificent grey beard deserve some credit. For many years, there was a fear of going grey. But the Irish legend has shown us time and time again that it can actually look great. To achieve the empire look, invest in beard oil and use it at least once a day. Also, if you’re one of those guys who blow-drys your beard, consider drying it with a towel first so you don’t expose your hair to excessive heat for too long. This can seriously damage your beard strands, especially if you have grey hair.

Stubble beard

Idris Elba is one of the best beard wearers out there. If you’re starting to get grey hairs in your beard, embrace it! Keep your hair soft and full by using a beard shampoo every day to keep your roots healthy. Then, comb everything out with a wide-tooth comb and carefully cut all the hair with scissors.

Short beard

For men who want to look sharp at all times, take inspiration from Tom Ford. Not only does the man know a thing or two about fashion, movies, and great scents, but his signature short beard is also a great option. If you’re looking to try it out, invest in a good beard trimmer. Shape your beard carefully, keeping it the same (or very similar) length all around. This should include your mustache and cheekbones, and line up perfectly with your sideburns.
